A tutorial for fixing the eyes in Source Filmmaker Gmod Ponies.
NOTE: This may not be the most efficient way to fix the eyes but Adamtheamazing64 is finding a way to make it easier.

I have a problem about pony characters' eyes.

I want to make a shipping picture that has the eyes closed (It's a kiss picture), but when I export the image, their eyes are visible through their eyelids. Am I doing something wrong and can this be fixed?

This is a known issue amongst the SFM-Ponies community. The way around it is by rendering it as an image sequence for a couple of frames until the model's eyes fully pose.

Somehow I had the exact opposite problem though.... Instead of:
eyeball righteye "head" -5.200 -15.060 39.890 "eyeball_r" 10.000  -1.000 "body" 10.000
eyeball lefteye "head" 5.200 -15.060 39.890 "eyeball_l" 10.000  1.000 "body" 10.000

"head" was Head and the words head, eyeball_r, eyeball_l, and body were all not in quotes

when i click compile, i get the error

ERROR: c:\ponies_source\Jeff_pony.qc(256): - bad command flexcontroller
ERROR: Aborted Processing on 'Jeff_Pony.mdl'

The line number leads to

flexcontroller eyes range -45 45 eyes_updown
flexcontroller eyes range -45 45 eyes_rightleft


When i take it off, it works. 
The things is... isn't that what's supposed to fix the problem?

when in SFM, instead of the "face" menu thing, there is "eyes" and a bar that says "localViewTargetFactor"

I used SRick91's (The guy who made the sfm rainbow factory animation)

I'm kinda ok if there's no way to fix it. i could just re-skin noteworthy to look like mine.
the only sucky part is that i wouldn't be able to use him along side mine, and the tail is different.

Try putting "flexcontroller eyes range -45 45 eyes_updown
flexcontroller eyes range -45 45 eyes_rightleft"
on line 210 instead of 256. Try to see if that fixes the compile error.

It doesn't look like the flexcontrollers for the eyes were not in the $model group.

Hey! sorry for replying so late.. I forgot about this problem for a bit.

I just tried it, I got some "errors" while compiling (read bellow)
but when i did the changes, it worked!

I don't have a whole lot of knowledge when it comes to modeling in Valve's Source Engine,  but thanks for sharing the error message. I'm sure someone will figure that out.

you have pony source, do you have sonicgenerations source?
Cause right now I only got  one problem, that is no qc file on the model that i want to edit with.
And it is from workshop, not G'mod.

One of the members from the SFM-Ponies group replied and apparently they also have that issue. They gave out a couple of suggestions to work-around the flex issue when rendering. comments.deviantart.com/4/2488…

Hey, I need help. had two days to the seas with GUIStudioMDL and Source Fimlmaker and I still can not fix those eyes. When I do everything according to the instructions, I always GUIStudioMDL type this:

Created command line:
  "C: \ Program Files (x86) \ Steam \ steamapps \ common \ SourceSDK \ bin \ orangebox \ bin \ studiomdl.exe"-game

Can not find steam app user info.

I do not know how I achieved that does not require me to GUIStudioMDL way for Orangebox or for Ep 1

I can confirm that the adding of the two extra lines in the QC file works (not so sure about the rest of the tutorial though =P).

Thanks so much for doing this. I honestly thought for a while I was going to have to do something far more complicated to get the eyes working ^_^

I have this bug everytime I export a picture of a pony closing their eyes. Everytime I export it, the ponies eyes looks odd. Is there a way to fix it?

I got the eyes to work, but is there a way to fix the rest of the face posing? All of those vta files and smd files that were copied make it seem like there should be some extra controls to play around with, but nothing shows up in SFM. I cant control the tongue, the ears and whatever else is in there. The qc files says successfuly compiled.

In the Animation Set Editor, try looking for the other flexes in the "Unknown" group within the imported pony model. You should see something like "l_lower", "r_lower", "lower", "r_sad", "l_sad", etc.

Mines the same way, I get an error when I want to compile.
"The location of 'studiomdl.exe' for this SDK is invalid or not might been set."
The bad thing is when I try to look I can't find the gameinfo.txt for whatever game it's talking about. :nirvana:

From what I've heard, if you launch Source Filmmaker in Steam and choose option "Source SDK". It should generate a gameinfo.txt in the usermod folder under Source Filmaker. Let me know if it worked or not.

omg, after 3 hours i finally figured it out
to fix the "SteamMountFilesystem etc" problem you have to edit the gameinfo.txt file located in "Steam\SteamApps\common\SourceFilmmaker\game\usermod". open it with the editor and change the 2 numbers "1840" into "41010".
it worked for me, i finally can move the eyes now :D

If you find a help for the " MountFilesystem( 1841 ) failed: SteamMountFilesystem(33916,1841,0x157afb48=,0x157afa38) failed with error 5: No CS online with App 1841 Ver 10" in the log, please tell me

I'm sorry, but if you know how to fix the eyes for the pony models, why are you making us do it? Why can't you just create a download for the fixed models? If I wanted to know how to fix the eyes of a model for use in SFM I would find a tutorial.
